Sleeve, wedge box or flat wrap
Three constructions cover almost every slice counter. A sleeve is an open holder that the slice slides into, quickest for staff and cheapest per piece. A wedge box closes over the top, which suits delivery and stops a slice sliding out in a bag.
A flat wrap is a printed sheet folded around the slice at the counter. It uses the least material and prints beautifully, but it needs a moment of staff time per order, which is why busy windows tend to avoid it.
Quantities are the same for all three, so the decision is about service speed rather than budget, and the quote will price whichever two you want to compare.
Why grease resistance is a specification, not a claim
Every board looks fine when it is cold and dry. What separates a good slice holder from a bad one is what happens after four minutes under a lamp with a hot, oily slice sitting on it.
We specify a board with a grease-resistant treatment rather than a plastic liner, because a liner makes the holder harder to recycle without adding much in the way of performance at this size.
If your slices are unusually oily, say so in the enquiry. There is a heavier grade that costs a little more, and it is worth it on a pepperoni counter in a way it is not on a margherita one. Kitchens that serve slices on an open base often pair these with open board trays for counter service.
Sizing from your pie, not a catalogue
The two numbers that matter are the length of the slice from crust to tip and the width of the crust end. A 16 inch pie cut into six gives a very different slice from the same pie cut into eight, and a holder built for one will not hold the other.
Send both measurements, or post us a slice-sized cardboard template if that is easier. We cut the dieline against those figures and send a proof you can load with a real slice before the run goes to press.
If you sell more than one size, running two dielines in the same order costs less than two separate orders later, and both stay on file for reprints.

Materials and printing
Board and print, side by side
Three boards and three ways to print on them. Every combination below is quoted the same way, so the choice is about how you want the packaging to feel in the hand.
Choose the board
Natural kraft
Unbleached brown board. Ink sits into the surface rather than on top of it, which mutes bright colors and reads as craft and small-batch.
Recycled board
Post-consumer fiber with a slight fleck through it. It takes a one or two color mark well and tells the customer what it is without a claim printed on it.
Choose how it prints
Full-color CMYK
Four process inks. The right choice when the artwork is a photograph, an illustration or anything with a gradient in it.
Single-color logo
One ink on plain board. It is the least expensive way to print a run and, on kraft, it is often the better looking one.
Pantone spot colors
A mixed ink matched to a Pantone reference. Use it when a brand color has to be exact across every reprint.

Questions
Pizza Slice Sleeves: common questions
Will the board go soggy under a hot slice?
Not within normal service time. The board is treated to resist grease and holds up under a heat lamp for the ten or fifteen minutes a slice usually waits. What it is not built for is sitting under a slice for an hour, which is a holding problem rather than a packaging one.
Can you make a holder that closes for delivery?
Yes. A wedge box with a tuck flap keeps the slice in place inside a delivery bag and stops it sliding onto its face. It uses more board than an open sleeve so it costs a little more per piece, and the quote will show both.
What sizes do you keep dielines for?
Slices cut from 10, 12, 16 and 18 inch pies are already on file, in both six-cut and eight-cut. Anything outside that is a new dieline, which we still build at no charge; it just adds a day to the schedule.
Is kraft or white board better for pizza?
Kraft hides the grease shadow better and suits an artisan look. White board shows a photograph or a bright brand color far more accurately. Both resist grease equally when specified properly, so the choice is aesthetic.
Can I print a price or a QR code on the holder?
You can, and a QR code on the flat face works well for review or loyalty links. Keep printed prices to a separate sticker rather than the board itself, or a price change turns your remaining stock into waste.
How many holders come in a carton?
They ship flat and nested, usually 500 to a carton depending on the slice size. A jumbo 18 inch dieline packs fewer per box, and the delivery note will state the exact count.
